Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens - better known to the public as Queen Latifah is an American performer, actress and a singer. Queen Latifah's career in the fields of music, film and television has been recognized with an Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah was the daughter of a Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and an Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior, was raised and born in Newark New Jersey. Her father and mother split when Latifah reached the age of ten. Latifah, who was born and raised in Newark New Jersey attended Catholic school in Newark. In her early twenties, her cousin gave her the stage name Latifah that means tender and gentle in Arabic. Latifah was always tall and tall. Standing 5'10", she was the power forward of her high-school basketball team. She sang the song"Home" from The Wiz at a performance in high school. Latifah began beatboxing with the women's fresh rap group.
